The item can be nearly anything, as long as it has something that gives pleasure to you. I would avoid anything questionable, like graphic pictures. Focus on this item for just 5 minutes. Study the item's details. Try to remember where the item was purchased.  For example, I have a photograph of my wonderful parents on my refrigerator. When a panic attack occurred in the past, I would walk to the refrigerator, look at the photograph, and study what my parents are wearing, how happy they look, and perhaps when the photograph was taken.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What happens when you look at something wholesome and beautiful is that your mind is able to anchor itself temporarily to something concrete, something tangible. When your mind is anchored, to continue the analogy, your cargo wont go out to sea and be lost in the ocean. Of course, you cant look at that item all day. This is a simple trick that will show you that panic attacks can be beaten.
